Almost 3 years after the opening of Coutume Café designed by CUT architectures Coutume teams up with the Finnish Institute in Paris. The integration of a coffeeshop within the institute takes part of the restructuration of the Institute which transforms itself to target new visitors.
With a limited budget and a tight calendar our proposal was to conceive a mobile and autonomous cart and four long tables to insert within the architecture of Juhani Paalasmaa, in the auditorium space.
Echoing with the existing interior the cart is designed as a three-dimensional timber grid made out of beech in reference to the grid of Coutume Café. Since no water inlet exists in the auditorium space water gallons are placed atop the structure to supply the coffee machine. Coffee goods and plants fill the remaining clusters of the grid.
