The site comprised a small vacant cottage with outbuildings and paddocks subdivided by hedgerows. The cottage located along a country road was in need of much upgrading. A replacement dwelling is now located on the footprint of the original cottage designed to provide a modern, contemporary, open plan living space, with window openings positioned to maximise daylight. The courtyard type design helps to maximise daylight penetration deep into the plan while providing passive heating through solar gain. The dwelling achieves near Passivhaus standard through a combination of fabric first design, solar collectors and a combination thermal store with underfloor heating.
