An Archive and a Studio
Are to share a field in Stanfordville, New York
Near a tall hickory tree
Stakes in the ground this May

The Archive; will house the work of a sculptor
The Studio; the making of more work
They need each other
As lean-tos do

But the Archive wants its gallery
And the Studio wants its tools

And the more they reflect each other
The more tension between symmetry and seriality
The project explores these proximities in particular
Between formal nearness and difference
Between its own sequential architectural parts
Looking for a composition of nearness that holds things apart
