The intervention of this old labor house, transformed into a vacation cottage, preserves its original exterior from a contemporary approach, where respect for the existing structure and modern trends coexist in a dialogue between architecture, interior design, and the natural surroundings. This comprehensive renovation of a vacation home has a respectful and coherent goal, seen as a tribute to what exists and the functionality of the original building.
TRADITIONAL ARCHITECTURE WITH A CONTEMPORARY TWIST
This vacation home is situated in a natural setting characterized by the mountains, beech forests, and oak groves that make up the habitat of roe deer, red deer, and wild boar.
Surrounded by an extensive hunting area with views over the forest, the renovation was conceived as a retreat that leverages the original structure, preserving traditional architecture and replicating the volume and materials, with a twist that allows one to experience the rusticity of the home with contemporary comforts.
VIEWS OVER THE FOREST HORIZON
The renovation of the vacation cottage in La Vera is organized into two bedrooms with separate bathrooms connected to a spacious living area that takes center stage. This area includes the living room, dining room, and kitchen, completely removing the boundaries between the public space and the exterior, fully opening the facade to transform the cottage into a large porch overlooking the forest horizon with no distinctions from the outside. No interior space is deprived of enjoying the privileged views and natural light.
A SUSTAINABLE “NON-INTERVENTION”
This project, as a "non-intervention" in the territory, used local materials and elements recovered from the land and surrounding old structures. New elements, such as the chestnut wood shutters, will blend with the environment over time, acquiring a grayish patina.
For better energy efficiency, the entire house was thermally insulated and photovoltaic panels were installed.
This small house has transformed from an abandoned building into a perfect vacation home for enjoying summer either in company or alone.
