This corporate hangar at Hanscom Airfield in Bedford, Massachusetts provides 30,000 S.F. of aircraft storage, 9,000 S.F. of office and support area space, 5,000 S.F. of Ground Support (GSE) areas and a passenger waiting lounge. As requested by the client, the base building systems, materials and finishes used in the building were selected with the principles of sustainable design in mind. Translucent clerestory panels to maximize daylight were used in the hangar.
In designing the interior of the office, ground support areas, passenger waiting lounge, and airplane hangar, the function of each space as well as the impact on indoor air quality were carefully considered when selecting finishes and materials. Amenities such as pilot flight planning areas, a gymnasium, executive café and a fireproof aircraft records storage vault were incorporated into the design. Particular attention was paid to creating a comfortable, relaxing environment in the waiting area.
