The three-phase improvement project dramatically improves interior functions of the existing multi-wing gothic law school compound. A gracious new entrance, exterior plaza and paths, lobby, and corridors redefine the experience of the building and create clear access routes to new centrally-located counseling and academic services offices, tiered lecture rooms, and seminar classrooms. Two grand ‘commons’ added through the removal of disused structural stacks and a locker room serve as orienting social and academic gathering spaces, enhanced by daylight and classically detailed. A new classroom lecture concourse ensues from the lobby, its exterior fitting sympathetically with the historic Purcell Courtyard. Sorensen Partners Principal-in-Charge Marie S.A. Sorensen contributed to the design and planning of this project in 2011 as architectural staff at Ann Beha Architects.
