”An aquarium that rebrands precious corals”
This is a project for a jewelry shop based in Naha, Okinawa Prefectures that handles precious corals.
Precious corals from Japan are extremely valuable because of their rarity.
However, their value is not widely recognized like diamonds or pearls, and for this project we were required to help spread the image of precious corals as jewelry throughout the world.
We proposed to incorporate the studios where the jewelry are produced and an academic area into a single shop in order to help others learn more about the value of precious corals.
Similarly to walking around an aquarium and seeing the various fish and reading about their background information, our plan was to enable customers to walk around the shop while they learn about new jewelry and precious corals and rebrand precious corals as jewelry.
As an homage to the precious corals that can only be found in deep seas, we plan to utilize drapes and lighting filtered through unique patterns to depict water surface patterns produced at FRP to attract attention from outside the store.
Introducing new innovative designs that were not seen before with precious coral jewelry, the store was named CORALIA by adding the words “coral” and “ia” as a modifier that represents uniqueness together, and is off to a fresh and exciting start.
