KHR Architecture has been responsible for the architecture and planning of the entire first phase of the Copenhagen Metro. The work began in 1994 and included both the architecture of the stations and the new urban areas above ground, consulting and planning of the infrastructure as well as the industrial design of the metro clock and the "ballehvileren".
In the design phase, the focus was on ensuring that passengers could move around the stations quickly and safely. Therefore, good lighting was an important factor to create safe spaces underground. Another aspect was the short stops at the platforms, which are cleared every 2 or 4 minutes when the metro arrives. The straight lines and smooth surfaces have no obvious corners and hidden nooks for potential criminals and harmless street musicians to keep above ground.
