Rather than leveling the ground, we decided to return the birds to the 'trees' and build a magical tree house for them. The structure is anchored by a redwood post sunk into concrete, which then goes through the coop and locks into the rafters. To minimize visible structure, the floor framing is completely interlocked with half lap joints and topped with a plywood gusset. The siding is Tennessee red cedar, which is meant to blend in with and accentuate the woodsy backdrop. Finishing touches include a spiral staircase for the chickens to get into the coop, two human access doors and a lightweight roof made of a single sheet of aluminum.e 'trees' and build a magical tree house for them.
