Cook Hall, the newly opened American gastro pub at The Westin Al Habtoor City, is warm & inviting with an interior that is industrial. WA International took their lead from the hotelier's main concept which is deeply rooted in America's North West.
Interactive with a friendly atmosphere, flat screens keep guests up to date with what's happening in the sporting arena whilst the menu is shareable serving some of America's favorites like buffalo wings, slider burgers & mini steaks. Communal tables in solid timber add to the concept of sharing & meeting in a relaxed environment.
With it's voluminous interior space, this gastro pub is split level with a mezzanine level boasting dart boards & a pool table. The upper level features a keg & wine display made from a combination of stone, concrete & raw timber making this an impactful show piece.
Exposed ceilings, mechanical conducts & steel piping become part of the décor as well as the noticeable use of I-beams which are also seen used to the front of the bar counter, stacked horizontally with a rustic timber top makes this bar an inviting meeting point serving international beers, wines & imaginative cocktails.
Booth seating provides a somewhat private dining experience with high seat backs in leather. Lighting above the dining tables are pendants installed in clusters resembling industrial factory lighting.
Leathers used have noticeable characteristic marks adding to the hides authenticity. Two toned leather bar stools are arranged next to metal bar stools making for an interesting mix of furniture. Dining chairs have a metal buckle detail to the chair backs which subtly adds to the industrial look.
It is the layering effect of the materials & finishes that create a wonderful palette of raw contrasts. Brick walls are offset by the concrete floors, metal sheet cladding with exposed rivets clad the columns & mesh make up the balustrades & partitions. Industrial light fixtures on pulley systems, solid timber bar counter & ding tops & leathers all add to the charm of this American North West concept.
The staircase, also an industrial feature made with a combination of solid timber treads with iron chain link for support. It is however the innovation of the "dumb waiter", again a pulley system that allows food & beverages to be transported to the mezzanine level without having to physically use the stairs, becomes a convenience for the waiter.
In all, Cook Hall, could be described as a rustic simplicity yet in the same token a very on-trend Food & Beverage concept in a relaxed & interactive environment.
