This new joint control center brings together most of the BVG's previously existing control centers spread throughout the city as well as the technical, administration, safety and service operations. The structure is designed to fill an existing gap between the BVG vocational training center and neighboring building, replacing the existing single-story subway station. Particularly challenging is the underground subway tunnel running directly under the project, resulting in an expressive bridge construction of four building-deep trusses. The ground floor is kept clear for access to the subway station with administrative offices placed in the three floors above. To accommodate the large area of the control center and make it readable on the exterior, the fourth floor peels off from the massing of the floors underneath, forming a "bay window" and tying the building to the neighboring training center.
