In 2012 the clients purchased an abandoned construction trailer from the local municipality for just 20 dollars and had a local farmer pull it to the back of their garden. They imagined it as a place where they and their two sons could rest, play, and study.
Together with architect Karel they decided to completely strip and replace the existing finishings. Inside, the typical rounded roof shape was repeated on the floor and the entire space was finished in plywood. The exterior is covered in small strips of oak, this finishing only interrupted by a large circular opening: a skylight was mounted in the wall to allow for natural light and to provide a view to the surrounding meadows.
Finally, a flexible solution with shelves placed at different heights was designed for the interior. In this way the trailer can be arranged as a place to sleep as well as a place to study or socialize. All work was carried out by the clients Kris and Griet, their two sons, and Kris‘ father.
