This Soho loft has been home to a Manhattan couple for over 30 years. After their son moved out his old room was renovated into a den and loft bedroom.Located below the roof level of this traditional loft building of heavy timberconstruction, the design utilizes the height of the existing manufacturingfloors to insert a new floor level into the space.An existing skylight which lighted only the son?s room now distributes light into the whole loft. New wood and resin screen walls are introduced to maximize the light from this skylight. The resin walls provide privacy in the den as well as visually extending the loft space. A glass floor located in the new loft bedroom lights one wall of the den, visually increasing the size of this intimate room. A new powder room and storages areas were also tucked into the space.
