This project is the first NY workplace for global tech company TikTok. With precedent from its recently opened west coast headquarters in Los Angeles, the challenge was to transform 150,000 square feet across the top five floors at the H&M Tower. Bringing the energy from Times Square to 58 floors above at the corner of 42nd and Broadway with a nod to its design language and localizes in context and material application for the Big Apple experience.
The 57th floor became the arrival and social center welcoming guests and visitors. The space with the features a signature interconnecting pink glass and metal stair. Large-format LED screens, another signature of the client, emboldens the main arrival lobby of the 57th floor and as an extension of the energy of Times Square below.
The 58th penthouse floor, with the exterior terraces serves as the social and collaborative hub for all, providing ample space for impromptu meetings, catch-ups, run-ins and face-to-face get togethers in their new home with uninterrupted 360-degree views of the Manhattan skyline. The west portion of the 58th floor slab was removed to reveal a newly inserted cascading, blackened European oak bleacher for all hands. To great effect, the space opens to a two-story window wall vista to dramatic views directly from the bleacher seats down into Times Square below.
The final flourish crowning is the transit grid lighting installation across the ceiling of the 58th floor central, collaborative hub in a nod to its new home displaying the primary-colored lines of the NYC transit map.
