This singular piece of retail space tries to escape the typical gloom associated with sex shops in the past, characterized by a long dark hallway flanked by poorly lit erotic photographs. To achieve this differentiation the design team at Denys & Von Arend opted for a friendlier open space scheme combined with furniture and finishes of rabid coloring along with a powerful set of lights which aim to eliminate the "halo of prohibition" that lingers around this specific type of shops and the industry behind them.
When the final goal is to "normalize" the act of purchasing sensual toys, the design process needs to be addressed thinking about the shop as an "adult toy store" where the product is always “visible” from outside within a fun and attractive environment, maintaining the transparency of the facade coatings along with a diaphanous spatial lay out of the premises.
