Project OverviewThe new proposal to meet the demands of BPSC (Public Library of Santa Catarina) started after reviewing all its existing internal spaces, circulation, access, distribution, facades, sunlight, external interventions, in short, the whole set in order to improve all your current installation.So early on we decided to swap the two accesses to the library, by creating an entrance to the main entrance more welcoming and striking through the basement toward the street Álvaro de Carvalho, giving more importance to their use. The secondary access turned to the street Tenente Silveira facilitating the movement of exclusive service by taking an existing area without much use.With this change also appreciated the existing garden, opening all of its empty space for passers-by on the street Tenente Silveira view the library as a showcase, requesting the User to enter as he had seen on the street Álvaro de Carvalho and follows a open square that was deployed.This solution led to a greater use of the garden to the frequenters of coffee and for the users of the library, embellishing further underground, as its new importance in the project.Besides the natural light that serves the basement through the emptiness of this garden, created a central void ripping all the existing slabs. This new solution brings more clarity to the central underground and also for all other floors.This gap is created is one of the functions to improve the feel of users within the library, giving a sense of spaciousness to the floors, since the distances between slabs are relatively small.The structure further developed and enhanced to serve existing as well as help increase the floor in the building, justified as an improvement to the distribution of gaining quality internal spaces.The functionality of the spaces was the greatest weight to the refurbishment of these environments had a satisfactory result. The provision was always thought of the way the industries do not conflict with one another, but at the same time facilitating the movement between those who work together.The open staircase located within the proposed new empty causes the User's BPSC realize all spaces and interact with it as it travels along it. In addition to his sculptural aspect, this ladder assisting the escape of persons in case of accident.A new emergency stair was designed in order to serve all floors of the building, and more than two elevators that were implemented to facilitate this vertical movement. As a principal for the movement of internal users and another for visitors to access the latest new floor (Cultural Center and Auditorium) and that on ordinary days also serves as vertical movement of the service's internal library.The facade of the existing building was also treated. Has been considered the current rectangle with translucent panels so that the new cover protects the indoors of the direct radiation from the sun and still add a layer of air between the panels and the facade of the building significantly reducing its internal temperature. (Ventilated Façade)This new monolithic created interact more easily with the existing environment, providing a visual harmony of the site. The new larger volume was treated with another material (perforated metal plate), but with the same functional concept. This difference clearly mark the sustained increase in the current building and highlighting the two main volumes.Thus the project can join the importance of functionality with the aesthetic environment to ensure that an element justifying the existence of the other.
