Concordia Design in Poznań, Poland. Originally a 1910 printing house, the building's 2010 renovation birthed the Concordia Design Center for Creativity. In 2022, we were tasked with reshaping two upper floors into serviced offices. The building underwent a transformative redesign, marking the inaugural project carried out with a proprietary approach to interior design called Future-Conscious Design.
Future-Conscious Design is based on responsibility for resources, user well-being and environmental impact. Balancing these aspects required prioritizing project goals in line with the client's values.
Objective 1: Sustainable Materials
Preserving existing materials is the core of sustainable design. With the complete change in function of 2 floors, only 27% of walls were demolished, and new walls reduced by 5%. Almost 95% of original floors, including wooden parquet, were retained. Bathroom fixtures and tiles were cleaned and repaired, with only irreparable elements replaced with water saving alternatives.
The project championed a "selective redesign" approach, introducing local handmade mosaic floors and recyclable carpeting in conference rooms.
Objective 2: Lighting and Acoustics
Effective lighting and acoustics are crucial for good working conditions. Daylight-sensitive linear fixtures were installed in all offices, reducing energy consumption and supporting circadian rhythms. An acoustic analysis of common spaces was conducted, which guided the selection of materials and panels for ceilings and walls. Acoustic booths were introduced in corridors.
Objective 3: Polish Design
Promoting Polish design and honoring furniture-making traditions, 98% of furniture is from local manufacturers, which considerably shortened supply chains and reduced carbon footprints.
Objective 4: Modern Interiors
Striking a balance between historical architecture and a homely atmosphere, social areas feature vibrant colors, while offices prioritize architecture, allowing tenant personalization.
