40 Compton Street in Clerkenwell comprises two Victorian warehouse
buildings with a courtyard loading area. The development provided high
quality ‘shell and core’ type office and workshop units, serviced and
finished to 21st century standards but benefitting from their location
in Victorian warehouse buildings in a sought after city fringe area.
The design sought to retain the character and features of the existing
buildings, while providing maximum flexibility for future tenants. A
new ground floor entrance hall and reception area and redesigned
courtyard complete the development.
Straightforward, practical and robust low carbon detailing with the use
of readily available materials, servicing equipment and building
techniques has achieved an upgrade to Energy Performance Certificates
Grade C, and
energy savings of approximately 44 kgCO2/m2 per annum of treated floor
area.
