The new Comprehensive Cancer Center by the University of Puerto Rico is located in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and has a total area of 280,000 S.F.
With the growing necessity for Health Care in Puerto Rico, the UPR, in conjunction with the Municipality of San Juan, decided to create a Hospital with cancer patients in mind.
One of the more interesting design decisions was the use of a prefabricated façade. The idea being that by developing a prefabricated concrete curtain wall system, the cost would diminish due to minimized on-site labor, the repetitive formwork use, and the shorter construction schedule, while at the same time achieving higher quality construction.
The Comprehensive Cancer Center consists of a 280,000 square feet project that encompasses research facilities, hospital beds, surgical areas, outpatient clinics, chemotherapy spaces, and high-tech equipment among other facilities.
This beautiful architectural project was developed in conjunction with Hillier, an architectural firm from New York City.
This project was designed to be a LEED Certified Building.
