Commissioned by HaagWonen ANA architects has made a design for the façade renovation of nine outdated apartment buildings from the eighties in the Zeeheldenbuurt in The Hague. This first pilot project was completed 2010. In addition to an upgrade of the entrance hall the façade has been renovated and isolated.
The design intermediates between the distinctive architecture of the original buildings from the 19th century of the Zeeheldenbuurt and the urban renewal architecture from the 20th century which has been inserted on many places in the Zeeheldenbuurt.
The Trespa cladding of complex20 was replaced by white stucco on a thicker insulation package. Ornamentation is applied in the stucco referring to window details of the 19th century buildings. This stucco-craft has been prepared in collaboration with the Dutch Stucco guild. The downspouts are integrated into the new facade. Aluminum profiles intermediate between the new facade and the existing window frames.
The concrete bricks in the plinth are replaced by dark brickwork and window frames are adapted in shape. The red window frames are repainted in a neutral gray color.
The closed wooden entrance front has been replaced by a fully glazed entrance with stainless steel mailboxes to get as much light and visibility in the narrow entryway.
