When we think about metro station we always imagine same dark, unlit, uncomfortable, unnaturalplace. Our concept aims to break this image and to give solution for building metro stations which is closer to man’s natural environment. We tried to build not with bricks and concrete, but with greenery andsunlight. The whole concept is not new but is new regarding metro stations concepts. There is no metro station that uses greenery and sunlight as a leitmotif of metro in the exterior and interior of the station. Weare actually succeeded to bring real greenery in a fire resistant glass and sunlight in the interior and to connect it with the exterior. It is attempt to bring backthe nature to Sofia and to start urbanization with implementation of nature where it is least expected. In this way we wanted to create a common space with a unified philosophy. Visual we implemented greeneryand sunlight above and below the ground and functionally we succeed to have flow of people without excessive congestion.Bulgaria is famous for its oleaginous rose which blooms in the entire Kazanluk valley which is known as the Valley of Roses, so we made metro station valley of roses implemented in the greenery. Also there will be installed air freshener which will emit from time to time the smell of these roses. Like these rosesthat has established itself as a stable, independent type of rose, differing in its anatomy and physiology from the oil-bearing roses cultivated elsewhere we intend to make a metro station that is different from any station elsewhere and has smell and taste of Bulgaria.Nowadays energy is more valuable than ever. Considering the enormous daily flow of passengerswhich will be generated, we proposed to capture energy from people walking on enters areas via piezo electrics to turn kinetic energy back into potential energy. The concept is to embed piezoelectric crystals in staircases and floor tiles. The advantage of piezoelectric energyis that it is completely clean and renewable and it is in spirit of contemporary urban principal. On the ground level the public space is divided in four parts where people can seat and rest or meet each other. The main idea was to cover the ground with greenery and to implement squares with sculptures and installations in a way that they will not disturb the nature but it will beperceptible and favorite place for leisure or to spend time while waiting for the metro. The proposed structures of the entrances to the metro station are simple so they don’t represent visual obstacles. Our exterior solution of the metro station allows a good visibilityto whole area. The idea for having a hillock between the pavement and the greenery on the street level was inspired by the rhodopes, the mountain of the legendary Orpheus. We bring together the greenery andlight as nature products with the asphalt as ahuman product in a unique symbol by which the metro station is recognized and in the same time is notintrusive. This project offers a new concept of metro station,a concept of connection between nature and human product between national and international, a concept that isrecognizable and in same time modest.
