The aim of the project was modernization of the Old Main Square in Bydgoszcz
(Poland)
as well as proposition of the western frontage development that would introduce
a modern architectural ‘language’ respecting the surroundings and its
historical context.
The authors decided to trace historical composition
(past buildings), of the western frontage into a modern form of representation,
in order to complete the existing building of the Bydgoszcz City Council.
The Old Main Square has been transformed into
universal, open for general use and multifunctional space allowing any kind of spatial
arrangement dedicated to specific function and visitors/users. The architects’
proposition is based on a simple and minimalistic form that create visitors-friendly
environment. One can tell that the ‘new’ architectural interventions arrange
the western frontage as well as the Old Main Square space into readable and easy
accessible public space.
