Competition for 5 stars Marriot Hotel in Warsaw
The new designed building of a new five stars hotel finds the
environment without a clear pattern of urban planning. However, the location
just opposite the main airport terminal OKECIE in Warsaw gives to this parcel a huge potential.
The proposed building must meet the requirements of this important location, so
from the first sight it should be a showcase, not only for Marriott brand, but
also for the country.
ORIGINS OF THE CONCEPT
Representative function of the building is a very important component of
the project. Therefore, we propose a modern and elegant building, original in form,
rich in interesting, unconventional spaces.The hotel building, like
the airport and the planes themselves is characterized by the movement of large
numbers of visitors, requires prompt and professional service, high quality
facilities and amenities. Therefore, to determine our building we have used
similar epithets. Building form refers to
the fuselage - ergonomic designed with the dynamism of the lines. The
building has two "wings". First one on
ground serves as a "terminal", welcomes guests and directs them to
the second part which torn from the ground, raise up those who have decided to
stay.
ARCHITECTURE AND SPACE
Journey through the designed space we start of the entry from the
Terminal 2
The main entrance materializes as a ribbon which leads along the
building and its sheltered by a roof. We can choose one of two entrances:
The main entrance which directs to the lobby or by choosing
the second one which leads to the conference center. Through main entrance we enter to a two-storey lobby,
where the hotel staff wait to welcome us and direct to the further journey.
Lobby
surface penetrates the building. It continues through glass facade of the
restaurant and twists outside in a ribbon form raising roof. However this
ribbon not only unifies the interior space. Its exterior raising part creates a
screen for interior parts (lobby, restaurant), protects acoustically and
separate visually from the hotel parking. Hidden underneath technical
facilities are not visible from the upper floors.
The form of the
building perfectly separates the various functions, however, allowing for
smooth transition and easy to interlacing.
The
conference center is located in a ground wing. This part communicates with an
administration rooms and business center which are situated in the second wing
accessible by the lobby part or by the interior foot-bridge.
Translucent
and self illuminated ceiling of two-storey lobby separates the loud public area
from the hotel rooms. This glass ceiling doesn’t create the visual border, its
makes the lobby continued until the skylight roof
This very
spatial surface connects seamlessly all of the different parts of the building.
From here we can go straight to the hotel restaurant, guests rooms,
administration rooms and conference centre.
Rooms are
located in the central part of the building, over the main hall. Vertical
circulation has a central position and we acces the corridors by the
foot-bridge positioned next to elevators units.
With this solution, none of the rooms suffers the close contact with
lifts, and guests are
not going in the narrow hallways, but through the spatial foot-bridge
overlooking the patio and the outer part of the ribbon-rooftop
The position of the wing ROOMS allows two views: the
panorama of Warsaw
and the airport runways. The higher level of hotel is
occupied with a LOBBY BAR. Its huge window allows to watch the planes take off. This is a fancy place, emphasizing the particular
nature of the "hotel overlooking the airport”.

function complexity of the building we were trying our best to divide the space
In a logical and clear way, making the orientation in the building easier.
Apart the main entrances to
the building, there are additional entrances for the personnel and input supply
with a code and electronic protection.

building is accessible and friendly for the disabled.
