Compass, the real estate brokerage startup, quickly outgrew their previous location and needed a building that would support a modern and open design approach and also provide expansion opportunities as it continued its rapid growth. They found a perfect fit at 90 Fifth Avenue near Union Square; where they were able add an additional five floors to a planned two floor headquarters. Ted Moudis Associates provided full architectural and interior design services for all seven floors.
• In order to facilitate continuous communication and collaboration between employees and departments, the majority of the workspace is open plan
• Employees have a number of environments where they can work, ranging from playful cafes and gaming rooms to small focus rooms and phone booths
• We were creative in lighting choices, creating different moods through the use of soft glowing orbs, crisscross black linear fixtures, and subtle task lighting
• Features like Romanesque columns with cornices and friezes along the beams were kept intact and highlighted, adding to the clean and comfortable atmosphere
• The appearance was kept very minimalist, with furniture colors, accents, and careful and savvy placement of graphic wallcoverings that providing pleasing contrasts to the neutral wall and ceiling colors
