This apartment is about a family of four living small and efficient on a 540 sq. ft footprint. About rearranging the structure to fit the inhabitants, not the other way around. Living small is about sharing lives with one another, identifying priorities and staying close as a family. About evaluating what’s really important in a home and finding a creative way to fit it all together. In the process, we spent a lot of time reading books and sites about boat design, and asking questions of friends and family that live part-time on a boat or in an RV to figure out how to make a small space planning work.A large, airy living space fosters activities together, while small cozy bedrooms provide private spaces tailored to quiet time. Space under the stairs is optimized for storage, housing cabinetry, drawers, and even the electronics for the TV in on the wall of the bedroom. This apartment was a finalist in Apartment Therapy's Small Cool competition.
