The Office, Thessaloniki
Located on the third floor of an office building in central Thessaloniki, this project arose from the owners’ need to expand their workspace. Having previously occupied a smaller office, they acquired the adjacent unit with the goal of merging the two into a cohesive environment.
Design Objective
The brief called for an open-plan office of approximately 60 square meters, accommodating five workstations, a conference area, and integrated storage. The challenge was to create a functional and visually coherent space that encourages collaboration while maintaining clarity and openness.
Spatial Organization
Workstations and the conference table are strategically distributed across the floorplan, leaving space at the center for two additional desks. Custom cabinetry and shelving line the perimeter walls, maximizing storage without interrupting circulation. The owners’ desks were positioned in front of the windows to capture natural light, while the former entrance to the adjoining office was closed, allowing the conference corner to integrate seamlessly.
Material and Light
The palette is intentionally restrained, combining natural oak, black-stained oak, and white lacquered or painted surfaces. This balance of warmth and simplicity creates a neutral, tactile atmosphere. To compensate for limited natural light due to the façade orientation, light tones were applied throughout to enhance brightness and reflectivity.
Curved desk forms improve circulation and introduce a softer geometry to the composition, while black metal structures echo the lighting fixtures above. The interplay between crisp white surfaces and graphic dark details defines the office’s character, creating a space that is both functional and visually engaging.
