Democracy, transparency, flexibility, availabilityWe have found the Urban House Dobríš competition interesting for us for several reasons.Firstly we were impressed by its layout and secondly we have found interesting the way of inhabitants' participation on further development of the town.We feel the layout as having been developed by the people, who would really employ the house; we felt a real effort for a well working and open centre being created. We believe that everybody should get a chance to study regardless of his (her) age or origin. And we also believe that contacts between different age groups are important for everyone. We would like to avoid our building standing with its back to anybody. It should clearly demonstrate its inner happening; it should be kind and attractive for potential visitors as such.It shouldn’t look like a library or a culture house as being currently known and perceived by the people. We want to have “a supermarket” dealing with INFORMATION, “a shopping centre” dealing with MEETINGS AND COMMUNICATION.The shape and the disposition of the house clearly define a house with its back side missing, a building, which can be understood easily and “rumbled” in the best sense. We were trying to allocate the major part of the program on the ground floor and thus to provide its best accessibility and interconnection possibilities. The building's administration part or a computer classroom with a study room shall be located in two volumes of the second floor. The multipurpose hall, which can be easily connected with coffee shop premises, clubrooms or outdoor premises, or even with the library, becomes the main ground floor area.Flexibility and its servant CURTAIN belong to the main conditioning supporting factors of the interior appearance:they allow us to form the space as necessary, to open or to close it, to make it smaller or larger, to connect or to disconnect it.Beside that, they make the space more colourful and softer. All of this for a comfortable and soft operation at various levels:a quiet book reading in a full library, various activities in the same hall, theatre performance and clubrooms autonomous operation. We believe that high-quality architecture is able to improve lives of the town’s inhabitants, to improve integration and to connect various groups of inhabitants together as well as to find new visitors to the centre.
