The project is about cutting into the earth and building beneath the landscape. The concept stems from the idea that a large portion of the water in desert cities is pumped from the ground. Sustainability is also a major factor in the design. Constructing the aquatic center beneath the surface reduces heat gain, cutting down on energy consumption and the urban heat island effect. The green roof serves as a permeable surface that allows rainwater to be absorbed and collected, reducing runoff.
