A competition entry for the 2009 Architect's Journal competition 'Common of Houses' run by Hole in My Pocket Architects. The brief was to design a solution to the expenses scandal by providing alternative accommodation for MP's. This project sought to provide a cheap alternative (any housing for MP's would be publicly funded) to housing in the centre of London where sites above ground are expensive. The Kingsway Telephone Exchange is a site located beneath Holborn and Chancery Lane tube stations. It had the advantage of being a large plot with its own entrance to the underground with great potential for providing alternative accommodation for MP's. The competition was a light hearted exploration into the amusing revelations into the things that MP's claimed for, as a result this entry follows the same vein.
