As a result of a Presidential initiative, an outdated Geology Library located on the 6th floor of Schermerhorn Hall was converted into this new Cancer Lab. The center focuses on the quantitative and technological underpinnings of cancer research. We provided this new facility with offices, open lab stations and multiple meeting areas including a Virtual Reality suite. Soft ceiling edges defined by wood lined soffits introduce an organic quality to the common areas, while the design promotes an atypical lab environment through its use of Herman Miller Nelson light fixtures that recall molecular elements. Large glass surfaces also promote an openness that encourages natural light to penetrate deep into the lab space.
