This top floor and rooftop apartment in a stately Brooklyn Heights townhouse centers around the carved oak-paneled great room which was once the billiard room when the building was a single family home. The new owners challenged Shadow Architects to enhance this dramatic shell with equally bold architectural interventions and interior design. The results include a new stone and glass bar carved out of a formerly concealed elevator shaft, whimsical lighting, and new furnishings in high gloss woods with rich, jewel-toned fabrics. The original oval-shaped foyer was finished with velvet upholstery and lacquer furniture, while in the turret room, a small sitting area was transformed into an over-sized daybed for taking in the sweeping views of lower Manhattan.
