The Rita Hollings Science Center at the College of Charleston was a 149,000 SF renovation and addition to an existing science building. This project included renovation of the original 1972 Rita Hollings Science Center Building and a new 3-story addition, including a rebuilt Physicians Auditorium with two additional floors for faculty offices.
The center serves as the home for the science departments, including Biology, Psychology and Physics. The facility houses classrooms, offices, research laboratories, teaching laboratories, collaboration spaces, telescope and roof deck viewing area, vivarium for animal holdings and a flexible, flat-floor auditorium. The new multi-functional auditorium will feature a flat-floor with no fixed seating to provide a large, flexible format that allows for easy reconfiguration and higher utilization.
This project was designed in collaboration with HDR Architects and was awarded two Green Globes certifications.
