'Cohorte' unfolds amidst the vineyards near Pordenone (Italy), encompassing mixed-functional spaces.
The choice of this name is linked to the courtyard shape of the structure, which is reminiscent of a common feature in traditional rural and agricultural architecture. In Latin, 'Cohorte' underscores the historical and practical significance of such spaces as gathering points for various activities, reflecting the building's commitment to embracing these traditions.
On the ground floor, there is an expansive event space equipped to host various types of gatherings. Adjacent to it is a kitchen for meal preparation or catering for groups. Additionally, there is a workshop for creative activities or courses.
Upstairs, three guest bedrooms are available, suitable for accommodating event attendees such as weddings or for a nature-immersed vacation. Furthermore, the project features flexible spaces that can be tailored to specific user needs. The entrance/lobby serves as both a welcoming point and a gathering area for guests.
Outdoors, the project includes a courtyard where one can relax or host small outdoor events. Finally, the accessible green rooftop serves as an ideal space for outdoor events, offering panoramic views of the surrounding vineyards. The rooftop creates an additional horizon, seemingly floating above the adjacent landscape, amidst the vineyards and hills. It serves as a transitional space between the natural world and the built environment, existing between the earth and the sky, providing a unique perspective on both. It is a place for contemplation and connection, where we can pause and appreciate the beauty of nature.
The vegetation selected for the rooftop is chosen to minimize the need for additional water, considering the arid climate that characterizes today's summers as the new norm. These resilient plants not only contribute to the rooftop's lush, inviting appearance but also reduce the overall environmental impact.
The building emerges from the ground as a natural extension of the landscape, harmonizing with its context and seamlessly integrating with its surroundings. The rhythm of the vines and the colors of the grapevines have inspired the 'Cohorte' facade. The design and materials of the building were chosen to harmonize with the natural landscape, making the building more than an addition but a completion.
Inside, the materials and colors reflect the surrounding countryside-village context. Large windows offer views of the vineyards even from within the courtyard. Movable walls can slide along the visible modular grid on the ceiling.
'Cohorte' has been designed to be energy-efficient and environmentally friendly, incorporating features such as ground-level solar panels and a rainwater collection system from the expansive roof.
