Codrico is a company specialized in treatment of grain, pulses and
flours for the production of grits for the corn flaking, brewing, snack
and corn flour industries.
Building
The factory is
located at the river quay in Rotterdam near the Erasmus bridge (by UN Studio).
The building complex
is like a free arrangement of different blocks.
Their mutual
relationship is that the facades have a strong graphical appearance, although
some volumes are solid and some are translucent.
Masonry, concrete and
glass are used materials.
Demands
Because of the
further modernization the factory required more installations.
Because of the 24
hours activity of loading and unloading of boats no scaffolding was allowed
along the pier.
Concept
The new installations
are located in an addition on a rooftop.
The idea of the
construction is the inverse of a metal sandwich facade for industrial
buildings.
Light coloured metal
construction is wrapped around the dark coloured sandwich panels.
The beams are put in
place by a crane from the water, the facade is mounted from the roof.
In this way no
scaffolding at the pier is needed.
The construction on
the outside gives the addition a strong graphical appearance like the rest of
the complex.
