The
project involves the construction of an external shell, detached from
the existing building. This is a freestanding metal structure
consisting of a double envelope with a metal exterior and an
fiberglass interior. The differentiation between the outer and inner
shells is designed to create a double aesthetic sensation, cold
outside, warm and cozy inside creating a more intimate and attractive
interior by utilizing a chromatic demarcation of elements. The
new shell does not just cover the existing building, but takes into
account its historical value, involving the old part of the building,
deliberately leaving a glimpse of its presence. The two ends of the
facade of the original cinema Pushkin protrude slightly from the new
building, in order to make the restyling clear, without denying the
presence of the old building, which in any case will still be used.
To break the symmetry of the housing,
slots have been implemented at non-regular intervals, which are both
aesthetic and functional, allowing the passage of daylight. These
interruptions will be covered with transparent SentryGlas. A
series of ribs supporting of the first six elements, in addition to
functioning as structure , light up at night thanks to a system of
LED lights, accenting the perspective
and emphasizing the entrance to the room at night, almost as if was a
triumphal entry portal. The new covering is not limited to
the pre existing building, but continues into Pushkin Square in order
to engage the passer-by and draw him into a covered square, which can
be enjoyed year round, both as a meeting place and as a stage
suitable for film and theatrical events.
