CocoCha – The Chamitage is an architectural project carrying multiple mission, where PT Arch Studio emphasizes the story of tradition, culture, and the local community. It aims to convey this story to resonate easily with the younger generation and tourists from all over the country.
The overall architectural shape of The Chamitage is inspired by the fishing vessel of local people, carrying the Champa cultural heritage in Phan Rang city, particularly the image of the ancient Cham tower there. PT Arch Studio strives to recreate a harmonious cultural feature that blends seamlessly with the modern surrounding while serving the practical need of a tea and coffee shop.
PT Arch Studio envisions the architecture of The Chamitage’s facade to be familiar to the local people yet distinct enough to attract tourists. Therefore, the design direction combines the vernacular architecture of southern Vietnam with modernist architecture as the guiding principle for the project.
The glass panels are neither too large, as in modern building, nor too small compared to the basic window frames of local houses, achieving a close yet visually open feel. The architectural columns are emphasized on façade, adding solidity to the overall structure and reflecting modernist architecture.
Next, the Cham tower image is stylized into decorative light-catching motifs, echoing the shapes of tower entrances. These are combined with layered levels to represent the tower’s roof image at the building’s entrance canopy. Additionally, contrasting materials are used, such as modern terrazzo-patterned tiles, pastel orange painted on steel frames, warm wooden accents, orange ceramic tiles, and Bau Truc Pottery. Together, these elements create a harmonious overall design that blends comfortably with the surrounding architecture yet maintains its unique identity.
With a relatively small plot of land, all interior spaces are essential. The ground floor is mainly dedicated to serving the counter, support areas, and the shop’s operations rather than seating. Behind the counter is a central spiral staircase designed to streamline movement, along with a skylight for this area. A mezzanine is harmoniously arranged to prevent a closed-in feel and to increase interaction between the ground floor and the first floor. Outdoor areas are included on all levels to provide a more diverse experience for users.
The building is located near a lakeside, so PT Arch Studio will focus on maximizing the expansive view for the upper floor. At the same time, the roof will be extended further to create more shaded areas, reducing the amount of sunlight entering through the numerous glass panels.
