This modern residence sits upon a narrow peninsula of land along a brackish creek. The residence, swimming pool and pool house were strategically sited and oriented towards panoramic views of layered bay front scenery and distant vistas of the Atlantic Ocean. FEMA regulations required that the house be elevated 10 feet above existing grade. In order to anchor the raised residence to the site, the landscape architect used a series of cantilevered planters and terraces as an extension of the architecture.
The openings below the planters allow rising floodwaters to flow freely between the building and swimming pool during a storm event. Given the site is at elevation 5’ above sea level, flooding precautions had to be given special consideration. Through innovative construction methods, the project team created an environmentally durable and spatially functional residence for the client to enjoy for years to come.
