This
house is being constructed on the pre-existing foundation of a demolished single
story ranch house that lay within a 100 foot restrictive setback from the
shoreline of Nomini Creek in coastal Virginia. The new house seeks to reorient
the interior spaces toward light and views to add a large, partially vegetated
roof deck and second story volume to house the master suite. Windows wrap
around three side of the west-facing living room volume to bring panoramic
water views and sunset skies into the main living spaces. The second floor
master suite opens toward the east, looking toward the mouth of the creek and
the bay. Skylights illuminate
interior first floor spaces and form sculptural pieces as they penetrate the
occupiable roof. Renewable energy sources, including wing turbines, geothermal
wells, and PV panels will take advantage of the abundant open space on the 17 acre property.
