While they appear to be the proof of reaching the objective by tourists/photographers, inhabitants (only those who read traditional Chinese/Cantonese characters) perceive them as spam, assailing the spectator regardless of time of day and night. They interfere with the thermal balance of the day, simultaneously illuminating and heating up the streets after dark and offer entirety - from restaurants, tailors, birds' nests to night clubs and spa/brothels. Free market, stimulated with the constant stream of information/message, is touching ones' brain with its' sub/consciousness and body with the omnipresent heat. Hong Kong's banners absolutely and thickly overgrown this dynamic Asian megalopolis, which is (with it's non-linear growth, multilayered structure, simultaneous explosions and implosions) one of the most credible "physibles" of Web. Entering the void, the street, is alike opening a browser where motives of the user must be streamed into buying - the products/lifestyle - default, generated mindset hidden under the words of success, fulfillment or beauty. The streets, shaped with hyper-podium typology* exploited and overused in 90's, became conductors of air pollution coming mostly from Chinese industrial cities located on the North from Hong Kong. #-CO2 machines/parasites/hybrids come from these dense streets where the sun light is a privilege, their behavior is coded and they are assembled from the parts bought through the same wires that distribute the lifestyle. They only know to lurk on the steel branches hanging above the streets and spread their pieces to capture air, as much as it is possible. They wait when the night comes and neon ads flash the streets, then they embrace/entwine the colorful heat of information and inhale the pure carbon dioxide, feeding the plants covering their surface. Cold, assembled in order to fight for a personal space (physical and psychical), they are flipping the consumer-resource's relationship in the contemporary society - a feudal structure where "not-doing" is to be excluded. They took the parasite form and their being except the purchased components, offer nothing to the host (market). Small farming, reduction of noise, reduction of air and light pollution, these are the only products of their metabolism offered to the excluded ones/who exclude themselves, ones who suck in their own aggressor's neck and ones who created them as a necessary tool to maintain the piece of land/air/city - the hunter-farmers, forced fusion, who uncontrollably roam in this rebuilt and wild environment as cities, not just only Hong Kong, became nowadays.
#-CO2 is based/inspired with the technology developed by chemists from UCLA in California. Polyethylenimine (PEI) is an organic polymer, inherent in the process of detergent, cosmetics production or employed as a wet-strength agent in paper-making process, however is most known for its' amazing capability of CO2 removal which was took as an advantage in space aircraft design, where porous materials (more porous-the bigger surface of absorption) used for the interior design were coated with PEI. The scientists from UCLA, while looking for the best and most porous material/structure to impregnate polymer with, they found out that fumed silica is the most stiff material along with its' big surface area, what gave (during the lab tests) the highest CO2 absorption ever reported in the real-world conditions where the air contains moisture. Once the material is full of CO2, the process can be reversed: heating the material in air to 85° C gives high-concentrated air (2 to 5% CO2); or, heating the material in a vacuum to the same temperature gives pure CO2, which could be used next to make methane or during the farming.**
