CLUB C, PALAVA
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
With increasing density of urban housing, amenity spaces play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life.
Located in the upcoming township of Palava, Club C has been planned along this same sentiment. Situated at the crossroad of a busy intra-city road and an approach road into the residential development, the plot has two sides open to traffic & throughfare.
A dual language was developed to cater to this setting. The perimeter along intra-city highway responds to the need for privacy and is expressed as solid and opaque. While the longer face of the building facing the development is visually porous and permeates into the landscape.
Modular aluminum screens allow a peak into the interior spaces, generating a sense of curiosity & lending vibrancy to the street section. A slender roof hovers above this alternating composition of screens & solids, uniting them into a singular expression.
The linearity of the structure is offset by a central cylindrical mass which rises above the adjoining wings. This helps define the entrance. The contrasting materiality & porosity of this form distinguishes it from the rest of the building. It’s a pavilion which receives the guests and offers panoramic views of the lush green internal courtyards.
Luxurious verandahs branch out on both sides with cozy lounging spaces overlooking the pool and party lawns. All rooms spill onto this verandah with end-to-end glazed partitions. This allows natural light to fill up the rooms while giving adequate weather protection.
At the master plan level, the public realm further extends to the neighboring plots with a temple and common tennis courts located right next to the club creating a social hub for the entire development- abuzz with activity & catering to all age groups.
