This Project focuses on issues concerning sustainable development, social aspects of design for sustainability, renewable energy options and a recognition of how the built form must be considered in a sustainable context. With about 55 hectare, the site is part of Neepsend and Parkwood Springs.Neepsend is an area of Sheffield 1.5km North East of the city centre. The main area is along the river Don from Lady's Bridge at the Wicker to Hillfoot Bridge. Sheffield Agriculture Research Centre is proposed to develop on the site. Its area is 8270 square meters, including 2 testing beds and a 1-storey building. The building is an inspiration from computational design. It is the combination of 9 square boxes creating a building shape that blends in with the natural form of the hill. It is the beacon of the site. Powered by the plantations down the slope, it can be seen across the valley and will be a visual anchor point for the site. The main glazing of the building faces South to get natural sunlight (lower energy usage) and to maintain heat gain.Ecological architecture is not only green add-on, it is also about creating the good relationship between human, using space and nature. Hence, the spacial garden is designed for this purpose.
