Commissioned by a private client and the Norwegian State Housing Bank, Rodeo was engaged to develop a masterplan for 20 housing units at a site on Bolsøya outside of Molde. Situated on the West Coast of Norway, the site has exposed, rough weather conditions and, with expected climate change, the future will only bring more and heavier rain, stronger winds and potential damage on the built environment.
The goal of the project is to create climatic robust architecture, where the buildings are placed, shaped and detailed based on the specific local climate of today and the future.
With support from the Norwegian State Housing Bank we have undertaken a mapping and analysis of topography, climate and regional traditional construction methods and housing patterns.
Based on the findings we have developed four conceptual building designs, which explore ideas on how to address differently the challenges. These conceptual designs – “the Fantastic Four” were on display at the exhibition “under40” by The National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design.
