Taking advantage of a larger than usual inner city site, the clients wanted a garden focussed dwelling with accommodation for a growing family. The semi circular courtyard was introduced to help living spaces flow together, while providing some separation.
The existing free standing Victorian dwelling was linked to the new via a glazed bridge- creating 2 private courtyards for study and bathroom.
Clad in aluminium sheet and timber, the extension echoes the pioneering Australian modern work of Roy Grounds, with simple geometry generating dramatic, but very livable spaces
