With Egypt’s recent political turmoil, many at one point thought Cleopatra Mall, designed for developers Cleopatra Group in Egypt, would not see the real light of day; forever remaining an award-winning design with a half-built dream. But they were wrong.
After winning a number of accolades and awards in 2011, including “Best Retail Architecture- Worldwide” at the International Property Awards and the Global RLI Award in the “Future Project Award” category, Cleopatra Mall was set for great things before the effects of the Arab Spring took developments to a halt.
Now in 2014, the project is back on track with construction rapidly under way.
Cleopatra Mall’s iconic canopy, described by Design International’s CEO, Davide Padoa, as “a wave in the desert” has won over the retail industry with over 300 shops, a breathtaking outdoor musical fountain, gourmet markets and, most enticingly, Egypt’s first dedicated luxury mall inside a shopping centre; complete with its own valet parking, VIP lounge, spa, press office and TV station.
