A conceptual and metaphorical perspective for planning and design of the new facility, the new Early Childhood Development Center is conceived as an oasis: a community for nurturing human development and inquiry, while fostering a quest for knowledge and success - preparing these young children for an enriched life and for contributing leadership and productive services to this nation.
The Formal Learning Centers provide nourishment for the minds of the children – where their lives are enriched with abounding, productive and fruitful experiences; where they prepare themselves for a successful continuation of their journey into the future equipped with proper physical characteristics, appropriate cognitive growth and constructive behavioral skills. To maximize support for the teaching methodology and children’s learning, space planning and interior design provides flexible, colorful classroom environments that are sub dividable into various configurations for multiple purposes and activities.
Human development incorporates three domains, the first is physical development: the growth and maturing of the human body as a product of time, nutrition, activity and experience. The second domain is cognitive development: that which is associated with conscious mental activity, i.e., thinking, learning, remembering and using language. The final domain is the psychosocial: the mental, emotional and behavioral aspects of participation in and contributions to communal life. Continuing development of all three domains are critically important throughout life – each domain begins at birth and experiences in one-domain influences each of the others on a tiered scale. Making learning and human development fun keeps children attentive and interested. Attentive and interested children seek greater knowledge.
