This modern courtyard garden in Clapham Town is the crowning jewel of an extensive townhouse renovation. With an outdoor oven, hidden bar, cedar cladding, raised beds, water feature, fish pond, 2 seating areas, sculpture & bespoke planters, you couldn’t pack more alfresco punch into 50 urban square metres.
Reduced in size due to a house extension, the squared courtyard is zoned into 5 distinct areas: Water feature rill and fish, dining, lounge with an oven, hidden bar and a dry inverted raised bed. ⅔ of the space is paved with basalt flags, the counterpart is a hardwood deck. The clients have kitted out the courtyard beautifully with contemporary furnishings & sculpture, while we selected a warm deep maroon colour for the water rill wall.
We designed tall curved vases featuring Horsetails, planting, lighting, a roof terrace and front garden lush with palm trees. A potted Tasmanian Tree Fern, Full moon maple, Chinese wild ginger, Lady Fern, Carolina silverbell & Fishpole & Black bamboo feature in the shaded habitat cultivated in a raised bed, while Spurge, Mexican lily, Maori flax, Eastern redbud, Serrated Sotol, Spider Flower & Green Olive Tree & are featured in a sun aspect planted in the ground.
Bordering the water rill, troughs planted with Sweet flags add safety & a minimalist touch, while Swordleaf Rush, Pickerelweed & Water Lilies dotted in the water among fish. A fully-kitted bar is hidden behind Cedar cladding with folding doors unveiling it when guests arrive. A blazing oven adds a focal point, light, warmth & a cooking facility by the main lounge.
