Claire Lilienthal School Madison Campus. This fast-paced project replaced aged modulars and expanded capacity at an existing elementary school site in San Francisco. Gelfand Partners worked towards and achieved occupancy one year from start of drawings. The neighborhood context called for a building of modest monumentality matching the existing auditorium. Modern materials and details were utilized in order to fit into the site. Recognition of the nurturing aspects of this parent-participation program led to an architectural expression centered around a new courtyard and elevator/clock tower that unites the multilevel site. The design process included close collaboration with neighborhood, district, school, and parents.2001 Citation Award, School Construction News/DesignShare.com 1999 AIA Exemplary Learning Environment Award
