Concept

Citadellskajen is a new recreational walkway to be created between the inner city and the sea as a part of the extensive urban development on Universitetsholmen in the city of Malmö. On the south facing boardwalk, which is oriented towards Malmö Hus, the original industrial layers occasionally shine through the overlying urban tectonic plate. To address the rhythm of the path and the organization of spaces, a crooked line shaped into a wall leads you through the space and creates places to sit. Rain gardens with rust colored brown field vegetation are aligned with the boardwalk together with tree Bosque’s of various forms of alder trees which add volume. Along the boardwalk there are nodes where the path connects to the waters edge enabling temporary additions to the space such as a floating stage.
