this concept has informed the transformation of the structure into not just a more glamorous, welcoming place, but into a multi-use landmark structure worthy of its spectacular location, used year-round for living, socializing, and enjoying an evening out.
the dual inspiration of DuPont™ materials and the re-creating of the cinema as a gathering place and landmark created a facade that alternately swells outward into the square and draws people inward. the Tyvek® UV Facades and Corian®-clad structure pushes into the public space, and the SentryGlas® and SentryGlas® Expressions™ gives passers-by a glimpse into the warmth and excitement within.
but the re-creation of the cinema alone is not sufficient. this structure must be aspirational and visually striking and bustling, day and night. its historical legacy (location of the 16th century Tver Gate) means it must be both landmark and entry point. so the building has not only swelled outward into the square, but upward into a residential tower. from the square, the eye travels in and swirls upward. from above, shaded by Teflon panels, the resident's view is of the world's most vibrant "front yard". the aspirational qualities of this incredible address only add to the glamour and prestige of the cinema itself - still the focal point of the structure.
the extreme measures taken to change the face of the cinema are taken from research of the area and its future needs. the restaurant addition will reactivate the cinema, creating a space where people linger. the tower will activate both the cinema and the city as a whole.
