Bryden Wood are architects and engineers of a new hospital in Edgbaston, a suburb of Birmingham City, due to complete in 2019.
The hospital has five operating theatres, ten first stage recovery beds, twenty second stage recovery beds and 20 hospital bedrooms and 120 bedrooms for rehabilitation patients. The hospital has a comprehensive imaging department and a significant physiotherapy capacity for electric care and rehabilitation services.
Bryden Wood and Circle Health worked closely together to establish an initial nucleus design that separated critical and non critical spaces to form an approach to the appropriate construction for these elements. This allowed costs to be reduced and expansion to be achieved with minimum disturbance to the hospital when the decision was made to vertically expand and double the size of the hospital to 19,000sqm.
Research and analysis on efficiencies in patient and staff flow from our previous Circle Reading Hospital influenced the design of Circle Birmingham to optimise on clinical outcome and safety.
